Clarion Fairy Wing Overlays - My Next Most Stolen Design

I had been planning to create digital overlay files of my Clarion fairy wings for a while now, for various reasons - some of those reasons are unhappy ones, but I am glad I finally did it!

This is the first time I’ve made digital overlay wings that are light up! And frankly it’s been a while since we made real ones too but that’s another story - we’re working out how to make them with my new attachments.

There are 3 other color variations of these in the pack.

Now you may be thinking, gee these look familiar! If you are, I bet I know why - an artist on Renderosity had made 3D mesh wings she’s selling there, and I’m about 99.9999% sure she referenced my own light up Clarion wing photo to make hers since these are not based off any particular butterfly design.

Yes there are some differences, a few veins were removed from the upper panel but the ones that are there are so specifically shaped and curved as mine - and the fact that she made the lights look as though they are fiber optic, like how my real life ones are made, is telling.

I did try to contact her, and never got a response. I wanted to ask more changes to differentiate hers from mine since I had already planned on making my own, and this kinda cuts into my profitability.

I even filed a DMCA with Renderosity, however they denied my takedown notice and made the judgement in her favor.
I guess not surprisingly, as she is a top seller and no doubt they make a nice profit from her content.
Didn’t think the platform was supposed to make a judgement on what constitutes as infringement but they did.
The only other thing I can do, is go ahead and make mine anyway.

Do these look familiar too?
If you’re thinking they look like Winx wings, I’ve thought the same thing. I created mine in real life in 2011, well before Winx came out with their Dreamix line and Stella appeared with some very similar looking wings.

If you look closely, rather than remove veins as the Renderosity wings, they’ve added more, but I can see some of the same veins in mine in their design.

Perhaps this one can be filed under the ‘inspired by’ category too, and since they’re in Italy I’m just going to keep putting my own design out there and if people have love for Winx, they can now turn themselves into one of their fairies with my overlays.
I haven’t even gone into the infringement hell that was my life the last couple weeks, as Twitter went absolutely nuts with what someone started calling the ‘fairy challenge’, posting pics of people side-by-side next to pics of wings usually with the caption ‘Did it work?’ - and yup you guessed it, the majority of wings they uploaded have been mine, and most often without credit as some of the Tweets and posts gained upward of 500K likes.
I think Stephen Colbert started this whole thing! Or at least that’s the first person I saw who did it.

Of course when I made my own to tweet, it got a fraction of that. Such is life!


I may consider bringing back the real life Clarion wings too. What do you think?

Black Trans Lives Matter too.

We can’t support the movement for Black lives without also acknowledging that Trans people, even in the Black community, are discriminated against the hardest.
I’ve made 2 sets of fairy wings that were auctioned in my eBay store, and the profits went to the respective charities: The Bail Project and Transgender Law Center.
The auctions raised roughly $1,000 total for charity!
First, we have the yellow and black Pansy wings, to support Black Lives Matter.
The wings were hand painted digitally by me in the organizations' bright yellow and black, with a hidden 'BLM' in the black patterning.
I also painted that same wing style in the colors of the Trans flag - blue, pink and white.

Even though they are not industrial strength by any means, perhaps these wings will help with physical distancing at protests because remember y’all - we are still in a pandemic so be careful out there!

$408.00 from the BLM wings sale went to The Bail Project, and $396.00 from the Trans wings went to Transgender Law Center.

I also made an additional payment of $200 manually to Black Trans Travel Fund, for a total of $1,004!
I only kept the amount for the materials’ cost.
I also have been making a small automatic monthly donation of $10 to the Black Lives Matter organization, same goes for Planned Parenthood and Earth Justice.

I was also making the same monthly donation amount to ACLU but stopped after they continued to help neo-Nazis get their rallies approved and will probably be replacing that one with monthly donations to either Transgender Law Center or The Trevor Project.
I’m also looking into a Shopify extension to have a portion of each sale donated to charities.

Black Trans Lives Matter too, yet they haven't been getting as much attention even though they have the highest murder rate of any oppressed group.
I hope whoever wins them considers consciously what to do with them if they are white / cis / hetero and are not in the group for which they are advocating.
For example, if you're a Kardashian and want to throw money at the cause that's great, but maybe don't wear them to a protest since your fam has been accused of blackfishing so often.
You know.
Situations like that.
Maybe donate or lend them to a wonderful black / trans person in your life or an activist you admire who is not a Kanye West or Candice Owens. Because let's face it, they are not helping things.

3 Faerie Crowns in Search of Their Queens

Faerie crowns for queens of their own kingdoms, the Aynia Lilac, the Aphrodite Azure, and the Vivienne Rainbow Faerie Queen crowns will be listing this Thursday morning, May 28 at 8:30am Pacific Daylight Time.
The metal crown portion of all of these is designed by Alessio Benetti of The Original Atelier.
They've been popular among fantasy designers, who often cut them up to rearrange into crowns and accessories.
I'd only done 2 that way a few years ago before I knew the artist behind them, and thought I would embellish these with my original wings in mini form, along with all the bling, to get out of my creative rut in this pandemic anxiety mode .

First, the Aynia Lilac Queen Crown - my favorite!
This crown has a color theme of wine, lavender and burgundy.
The 5 inch Aynia wings (side) and 1 & a half sets of smaller wings in front and accenting the side top (Salome and Vivienne designs) are all painted in the same color family with touches of bright blue. Wine colored glass jewels decorate the base of the wings, with iridescent Swarovski crystals on the wings and front of the crown.
Brass and clear glass chains hang from each side with pale lavender iridescent crystal drops and purple iridescent beads. This crown will be $479 USD

Next, the Vivienne Rainbow Queen crown.
The metal on this one is a slightly deeper brass color and it has a bit of a tarnish to it, FYI. Gives it a more antique look.
The mini Vivienne wings are painted in the Electric Rainbow Palette, they practically glow! Clear AB oval cabachons decorate the center and each side. A bright, almost neon tangerine AB Swarovski crystal accents the bottom front while clear AB crystal drops hang from brass chains on either side.
This crown will be $300 USD

Finally, the Aphrodite Azure Queen crown.
A silver colored crown (unlike the brass crowns this silver was painted on as that is how I received it) features the 5 inch Aphrodite wings on the sides and the smaller version on front painted in teal and deep blues.
Swarovski crystals are scattered on the wings and decorate the front of the crown, with a giant iridescent magenta and blue cabachon in the center.
It would be perfect for a dry land mermaid.
Silver and iridescent blue beaded chains hang from each side, ending with blue crystal drops.
This crown will be $425 USD

Each comes with ribbon at each side that can tie behind your head. They are removable as well in case you want to try your own attachment methods.
I’m still figuring the pricing, as these took a lot of time and love, and I won’t be making these exact crowns again.
I talked to Alessio Benetti after completing them and showing him the finished crowns, and he informed me that the ones I purchased were actually copies of his work by counterfeit companies!! o.O
Naturally, that is upsetting , as you all know how I feel about infringement.
He was not bothered by it, and it sounds like he’s been dealing with it for quite some time, years in fact, but since he is based in Italy and the counterfeit company is in the US, there isn’t much he can do - unless they ever go back to Italy, where authorities would be waiting for them.
Alessio even suggested I just buy more from the copycats if I like them, because of the expense and difficulty of selling wholesale to America - which he also offered anyway - but I will not be buying any of the copies. I refuse to support art theft, no matter how pretty or cheap it is for me.
Below is what the crowns looked like before I altered and embellished them.

What I will be doing instead, is finally put my original crown project into motion with my own original designs.
I started the project a couple years ago but lost momentum when a life event killed a lot of my motivation, but I now have quite a few designs drawn out and I will be picking a few - maybe 2 to start with - and finalizing the cut files.
This will allow me to build attachment points into the design itself, removing a lot of the headache that’s induced from trying to attach my own work to existing pieces that were meant to be as-is.

Aquatica Wings Also Listing Tomorrow

There will be 2 of the Aquatica fairy wings in iridescent Absinthe film with silver veining for sale tomorrow at 12pm Pacific Daylight Time, in addition to the Datura wings.

I think they are prettier in person, TBH I finished them too late in the day and the lighting was not ideal, but this film is much like the Aquamarine except with a bit more green in it. Slightly thicker too, I really like it!

Why Valved Masks Don't Prevent Spread of Coronavirus

I decided on the spur of the moment Friday night to make one more last ditch effort to inform the public more widely about the risks of wearing valved masks during the Covid 19 / Coronavirus pandemic.
I just couldn't let go of the fact that the CDC is not making this clear enough last I looked, the WHO is not making this clear, virtually no officials talk about it when masks are discussed, I'm not sure why. Could be, the CDC language on valved masks is outdated, and people need to know it's incomplete.
*The SF government page just updated their mask guidance to reflect the valve issue, but they are so far the only gvt or public health source that has made it clear.

The CDC only mentions that valved respirators (masks) should not be worn by health care workers in sterile environments like emergency rooms but does not tell you why, and neglects to let you know that we should not be wearing them to prevent spread of Coronavirus / Covid 19.
They probably assumed that we would not be infected with an invisible and asymptomatic virus, or that doctors would be healthy if they didn't have symptoms and not in danger of infecting others.

In this video I take one of those valves apart so you can see exactly how useless they are in protecting anyone but the wearer. These were made mostly for carpentry / resin work and smoke protection, which is why I see them worn all over here in California due to the fires and smoke pollution the last few years. For that purpose, these valved masks are great!

But, bystanders need to know and behave as if that person wearing a valved mask is sick and wearing no mask, not feeling a false sense of security. Wearers need to know that a valved mask is not sufficient on its own to prevent spread - it only protects one way, protecting the wearer from contagion, but we are supposed to be wearing masks so as not to infect our neighbors unknowingly, not only protecting ourselves. If you are informed of this you can wear a cloth mask or surgical mask over it to prevent viral particles from escaping from the hole or perhaps tape over the valve.
We should be staying home anyway, but when we can't I see people all over wearing these, probably not realizing they aren't helping to contain spread.

I know this is not fairy related, but hey, I put ears on for y'all! Makeup too but I can't say as much for my hair. This was actually done around 10pm so I did not bother with being very fancy this time and shot it with the front camera of my phone, which is why the writing on the valve is backwards, woops!
The wings will be back again, I promise.

I just want to help in some way to prevent any needless illness or death if I can.
Stores should know this, hospitals should know this, everyone needs to know so we can keep everyone safe.
With more orders given county or state wide to wear masks in public, less and less people are being exposed and more people are protected, but wearing these doesn't just contaminate the air around you for a few seconds. It can stay in the air for much longer as we already know, and can contaminate nearby surfaces.

My fairy wing mask is mainly to get your attention regarding IMPORTANT unaddressed info about mask protection and Covid-19!

Don't use the N95 masks *with* air flow valves without a cover thinking they protect those around you from coronavirus. Breath coming OUT of the valve is NOT filtered! If you are a carrier - and we all should act as if we are since it spreads before symptoms show - this type will expose other people to the virus.

If you are immunocompromised & this type is all you have then protect yourself if you must go out, but NO ONE is addressing this issue so the public is unaware!

I buy this type for sanding work, because it lets out my breath to reduce moisture & heat. I initially thought I could use this to protect against the virus too. I looked up whether exhaled air is filtered & the answer is NO for most of the valved brands I looked up, including re-usable ones like VogMask.

Government officials should carry some blame, for putting out a white lie that masks are bad for us, to preserve them for healthcare workers. Honesty would have been better!

They said we'd wear them wrong. Why not simply instruct us on how to do so properly like with hand washing?

During the fires in CA, we got advice on what types of masks we needed. This time, we were treated like idiots, & it caused fear & hoarding. People aren't informed about what each type does, and this is flat out dangerous. You actually want the cheaper ones without the valve - and that’s if we were lucky enough to have access to a supply. Healthcare workers need them most, but if you have a respirator at home already, I want you to know the difference.
N95 or higher is necessary to provide the most protection, which is why healthcare workers need them badly.

For the rest of us since those are hard to get, even a cloth mask provides more protection than nothing, according to a growing consensus of experts - and when I say protection, I mean we protect others by wearing one most.
It also goes without saying that with or without a mask we should continue to practice social distancing and every other safety measure as well like hand washing - especially any time you handle any type of mask.
