Protest Wings for Auction & Donation

*Edited 6/18/2020

Black Trans Lives Matter too.

We can’t support the movement for Black lives without also acknowledging that Trans people, even in the Black community, are discriminated against the hardest.
I’ve made 2 sets of fairy wings that were auctioned in my eBay store, and the profits went to the respective charities: The Bail Project and Transgender Law Center.
The auctions raised roughly $1,000 total for charity!
First, we have the yellow and black Pansy wings, to support Black Lives Matter.
The wings were hand painted digitally by me in the organizations' bright yellow and black, with a hidden 'BLM' in the black patterning.
I also painted that same wing style in the colors of the Trans flag - blue, pink and white.

Fairy Wings for Black Lives Matter. Auction profits will go to The Bail Project

Protest wings for Trans Rights, to be auctioned with profits going to the Transgender Law Center.

They sold on June 16 at 11pm in my eBay store here:

For the Black Lives Matter wings: https://www.ebay.com/itm/324199551766

For the Trans Rights wings: https://www.ebay.com/itm/324199566007

Remember to sign up for the VIP mailing list (to the right on this page, or bottom on mobile) to make sure you are updated of any changes.

Even though they are not industrial strength by any means, perhaps these wings will help with physical distancing at protests because remember y’all - we are still in a pandemic so be careful out there!

$408.00 from the BLM wings sale went to The Bail Project, and $396.00 from the Trans wings went to Transgender Law Center.

I also made an additional payment of $200 manually to Black Trans Travel Fund, for a total of $1,004!
I only kept the amount for the materials’ cost.
I also have been making a small automatic monthly donation of $10 to the Black Lives Matter organization, same goes for Planned Parenthood and Earth Justice.
Above are screen shots of the receipts for the donations I’ve mentioned.

I was also making the same monthly donation amount to ACLU but stopped after they continued to help neo-Nazis get their rallies approved and will probably be replacing that one with monthly donations to either Transgender Law Center or The Trevor Project.
I’m also looking into a Shopify extension to have a portion of each sale donated to charities.

Black Trans Lives Matter too, yet they haven't been getting as much attention even though they have the highest murder rate of any oppressed group.
I hope whoever wins them considers consciously what to do with them if they are white / cis / hetero and are not in the group for which they are advocating.
For example, if you're a Kardashian and want to throw money at the cause that's great, but maybe don't wear them to a protest since your fam has been accused of blackfishing so often.
You know.
Situations like that.
Maybe donate or lend them to a wonderful black / trans person in your life or an activist you admire who is not a Kanye West or Candice Owens. Because let's face it, they are not helping things.

Why Valved Masks Don't Prevent Spread of Coronavirus

The video below addresses the issue of valved masks during the coronavirus pandemic, and shows you exactly why it doesn’t work for that purpose by showing the insides of the valve!

I decided on the spur of the moment Friday night to make one more last ditch effort to inform the public more widely about the risks of wearing valved masks during the Covid 19 / Coronavirus pandemic.
I just couldn't let go of the fact that the CDC is not making this clear enough last I looked, the WHO is not making this clear, virtually no officials talk about it when masks are discussed, I'm not sure why. Could be, the CDC language on valved masks is outdated, and people need to know it's incomplete.
*The SF government page just updated their mask guidance to reflect the valve issue, but they are so far the only gvt or public health source that has made it clear.

The CDC only mentions that valved respirators (masks) should not be worn by health care workers in sterile environments like emergency rooms but does not tell you why, and neglects to let you know that we should not be wearing them to prevent spread of Coronavirus / Covid 19.
They probably assumed that we would not be infected with an invisible and asymptomatic virus, or that doctors would be healthy if they didn't have symptoms and not in danger of infecting others.

In this video I take one of those valves apart so you can see exactly how useless they are in protecting anyone but the wearer. These were made mostly for carpentry / resin work and smoke protection, which is why I see them worn all over here in California due to the fires and smoke pollution the last few years. For that purpose, these valved masks are great!

But, bystanders need to know and behave as if that person wearing a valved mask is sick and wearing no mask, not feeling a false sense of security. Wearers need to know that a valved mask is not sufficient on its own to prevent spread - it only protects one way, protecting the wearer from contagion, but we are supposed to be wearing masks so as not to infect our neighbors unknowingly, not only protecting ourselves. If you are informed of this you can wear a cloth mask or surgical mask over it to prevent viral particles from escaping from the hole or perhaps tape over the valve.
We should be staying home anyway, but when we can't I see people all over wearing these, probably not realizing they aren't helping to contain spread.

I know this is not fairy related, but hey, I put ears on for y'all! Makeup too but I can't say as much for my hair. This was actually done around 10pm so I did not bother with being very fancy this time and shot it with the front camera of my phone, which is why the writing on the valve is backwards, woops!
The wings will be back again, I promise.

I just want to help in some way to prevent any needless illness or death if I can.
Stores should know this, hospitals should know this, everyone needs to know so we can keep everyone safe.
With more orders given county or state wide to wear masks in public, less and less people are being exposed and more people are protected, but wearing these doesn't just contaminate the air around you for a few seconds. It can stay in the air for much longer as we already know, and can contaminate nearby surfaces.

Please spread the word, the awareness of this information could mean life or death for someone you love. For more on how to properly wear, remove, and care for your masks: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/08/well/live/coronavirus-face-mask-mistakes.html

And a special thank you to the SF government site for being one of the few that warns against wearing valved masks! https://sf.gov/information/masks-and-face-coverings-coronavirus-outbreak?fbclid=IwAR34F1a7D7DKpe71WN_eBdMjWABUJBzLBPWKgy-sHfkmhLxRYsb_pOMYS5Q

And remember;
Stay safe and stay home! Continue to practice physical distancing, masks are only an additional step.
Now, if only the stores would let us buy toilet paper for delivery or pickup :/

Important Message About Unaddressed Mask Issue

First I’ll get your attention with my new print on demand cloth masks featuring my wing designs! Then, please read on.

Or, don’t swipe because that was for Instagram, woops!

Or, don’t swipe because that was for Instagram, woops!

Below is the more important message.

*Updated with a new graphic on 4/19/2020 and to clarify a few things.

My fairy wing mask is mainly to get your attention regarding IMPORTANT unaddressed info about mask protection and Covid-19!

Don't use the N95 masks *with* air flow valves without a cover thinking they protect those around you from coronavirus. Breath coming OUT of the valve is NOT filtered! If you are a carrier - and we all should act as if we are since it spreads before symptoms show - this type will expose other people to the virus.

If you are immunocompromised & this type is all you have then protect yourself if you must go out, but NO ONE is addressing this issue so the public is unaware!

I buy this type for sanding work, because it lets out my breath to reduce moisture & heat. I initially thought I could use this to protect against the virus too. I looked up whether exhaled air is filtered & the answer is NO for most of the valved brands I looked up, including re-usable ones like VogMask.

Government officials should carry some blame, for putting out a white lie that masks are bad for us, to preserve them for healthcare workers. Honesty would have been better!

They said we'd wear them wrong. Why not simply instruct us on how to do so properly like with hand washing?

During the fires in CA, we got advice on what types of masks we needed. This time, we were treated like idiots, & it caused fear & hoarding. People aren't informed about what each type does, and this is flat out dangerous. You actually want the cheaper ones without the valve - and that’s if we were lucky enough to have access to a supply. Healthcare workers need them most, but if you have a respirator at home already, I want you to know the difference.
N95 or higher is necessary to provide the most protection, which is why healthcare workers need them badly.

For the rest of us since those are hard to get, even a cloth mask provides more protection than nothing, according to a growing consensus of experts - and when I say protection, I mean we protect others by wearing one most.
It also goes without saying that with or without a mask we should continue to practice social distancing and every other safety measure as well like hand washing - especially any time you handle any type of mask.

The fairy wing masks I'm offering via Contrado are not medical grade, but if you want to cover your mask or don't have other options you can now get a 4 pack with my wing designs. Contrado is also offering FREE blank white masks as well!

Social Distancing, But Make it Fashion. Faerie Fashion.

I didn’t feel very good today - GI upset, not The Virus so don’t worry - so I haven’t made it to the wing room yet. I did, however, make a new design(s) for my Print On Demand merchandise, inspired by our upside-down world all isolating in solidarity.

The design features a floating fairy with outstretched Colette Pix wings, and under her it reads:
Keep Calm and Faerie On. At the moment it’s on shirts as well as grocery bags and totes, as the odds are that’s a place you’ll want to get the message across right?

If someone gets too close, they’ll then read the message saying *Just do it 6 feet away please!
Although I made these in an attempt to interject some humor and whimsy into our lives right now during a stressful worldwide situation, I can’t stress enough how important social distancing, or physical distancing is right now to prevent the spread of Coronavirus or Covid-19. It’s not a joke, and it’s not ‘just like the flu’ so please don’t treat it carelessly out in public.
There’s a white line art version for colored and black shirts, a version with full color wings and black text for white shirts that also feature folded wing art in the back, and there is also the R rated version reading ‘Keep Calm and Fuck Off’ with the little fairy flipping the bird.
Please note that you’ll need to turn the Content Filter to ‘Off’ in Zazzle to see it if you’re in the ‘Safe’ default mode!
To change it, just scroll all the way down the Zazzle page, find the Content Filter link and change it to ‘Off’.

Photos of the Fairy Wing Yoga Leggings

Finally, a look at the real life Ellette and Colette Yoga Leggings from Art of Where.

Colette Pixish Leggings

Ellette Fairy Wing Yoga Leggings

The prints seem to look best on this stretch eco-polyester, same as what's used for the flare skirts, and the Satin Charmeuse fabric (the option for scarves / fabric) as far as I can tell in terms of color accuracy and saturation.
I got the size Large, but perhaps I should have gotten the XL for  myself. The whole pelvis area on these leggings is fairly short compared to other leggings I've had, but I also have a long torso (is that what we call long waisted?) so they like to slip down a bit while wearing for me.
For this reason, as well as due to a little bit of see-thru that happens when the fabric stretches during bending, I'm more likely to use these for regular wear with a long top.
Next design I'll try the XL and compare - and I'll make some of the regular leggings too in case those fit long waisted people better.

Whenever this fabric is stretched a lot, more of the white of the fabric shows at the seams where it's stitched, but that is just the nature of printed fabrics in general and not considered a flaw on these - and just like with the see-thru aspect over the bum, it might be improved with a larger size

So there ya go! I'm still working on getting larger sizes done too but there have been communication issues with the other vendor so please bare with me.

Photos of the Unseelie Ellette Flare & Wrap Skirts, Silk Scarf

Photos of the Unseelie Ellette skirts and square scarf are here! Below is the Flare Skirt, made of the stretch Eco-Poly fabric. The print on this came out nicely vibrant.

Unseelie Ellette Flare Skirt, size large

I can never guarantee that what you'll see on your screen is 100% accurate to real life, but I'm trying my best to make sure the photos' colors match what I'm seeing.

The Flare skirt has a more saturated print. I got the large size, though I wonder if I should have gotten the medium as the waistband sometimes kind of floats up when I sit down, but if I did it might be too tight around my hips and butt. Make sure you get the size that will fit your natural waist because this waistband is made for sitting right at the waist and not resting on the hips below it. The waistband is straight up-and-down, and does not have curvature that would make it fit properly on  curvy hips that way.
My waist hovers around 30"-31", just fyi.

Next, is the Unseelie Ellette Wrap Skirt.

Unseelie Ellette Wrap Skirt in Matte Crepe fabric

The wrap skirt I really like because it's so full as well as adjustable, but the two issues I noticed were a less saturated print on the matte crepe fabric, and it had quite a bit of static cling.  I was wearing nylons, so that may have done it. Now I wonder if perhaps the peachskin jersey wouldn't have that problem so that will be the next sample I order.
There are ways to deal with static, so it's not the end of the world, and there is a good amount of the print that shows through the back as well so that’s a bonus that makes up a bit for the less saturated printing.

The below photo shows the matte crepe wrap skirt draped on top, with the flare skirt on bottom so you can see the comparison in print quality and colors.

I also discovered a few other ways to wear the wrap skirts!

Unseelie Ellette Wrap Skirt - worn as an asymmetrical dress

It would work best on small people (my mannequin is a size 4-6) and I wouldn't trust wearing it without anything underneath, but for beach or festival wear it could come in handy as a last-minute fairy dress if you need one.

Last but not least is the Unseelie Ellette 26” x 26” square scarf in silk habotai. You can see the print on the silk has a much warmer tone to it.

The print quality is great but it will be a little darker and warmer, yet more saturation than the matte crepe - at least, more than the crepe used on the skirts. I am not sure if the scarves are made with that same fabric or not. Below you can see how well the print shows through the back on the silk, as well as a comparison photo showing the silk scarf on top of the matte crepe wrap skirt.

I hope this helps you decide! I may be moving these items over into my Shopify or Etsy store before long, and when I do there may be a slight pricing increase.
For now, you can find all my wing printed apparel here: https://artofwhere.com/artists/fancyfairywingsandthings

Real Life Samples of the Colette Pixish Long Scarves

My Art of Where samples came in, and I got to model the scarves yesterday so you can see what they really look like printed - spoiler alert, they look great!

I can't decide which one should be the main product photo though, which is your fave?

The long scarf is the silk option, which has wonderful show through of the print on the opposite side. The color is slightly warmer and darker or duller than the polyester satin charmeuse fabric is, but it's not a drastic difference. The shorter one is the polyester chiffon, which prints a bit brighter and cooler, but very transparent as that's what makes it chiffon.

Below you can see some of the fabric options and how much you can see the print in back. The chiffon and silk habotai show the print on both sides best, but the satin charmeuse is really beautiful with more accurate colors & crisp print quality, almost feels like the silk and drapes really well with a satiny finish.
The matte crepe looks great too, but not really shiny. To the eye it almost looks the same as the satin charmeuse, at least with the Colette print - the matte crepe of the Unseelie Ellette skirt looked more dull than the eco poly fabrics of the same design, so I don’t know if the matte crepe used for the skirts is different or if there is something about those colors that don’t like the crepe.
I’ll either update this blog with those photos or make a new one for the Ellette items.

I have a lot more to crop and edit, including the skirts and leggings, much more to come!
The POD items such as these *might* be moved to my Etsy or Shopify store once I have the new photos done, if I can find out if it will make a difference with my tax bracket. If it won't hurt me that way then I may do that and close the AOW store, and make a slight price increase since I'd be handling more customer service that way. So if you have been meaning to get something from there you may want to do so before that happens if you want to pay a bit less.

Patreon Membership Payment Change

Important announcement for Patreon subscribers!

I've just changed my creation payment type to monthly rather than per-creation, due to the inability to prevent patrons from joining to grab all the content and then leaving without paying a dime for anyone who does not have monthly and 'charge up front' selected.
I'm sorry to change the subscription type on everyone, but I had no idea how unprotected my content was until a recent forum post.
Since I have so many IP issues already, I could not afford to wait to make the change. Those of you who already subscribed will simply be charged on the 1st of the month as you have been, and new people joining will be charged right when they join and then per month after.
Thank you for understanding and have a fairytastic weekend!
